The Willmar
Mustangs are a Semi-Pro football team, located in central
Minnesota. They are now part of the Northern Power Football
League. The Willmar Mustangs are a team that gives former
high school and college players the opportunity to extend
their football career, and use it as a stepping stone to
improve their skills, so that they can play at the next
level. The Mustangs will be involved with local youth football
programs and will be putting on youth football camps.

Willmar's
First Semi-Pro Football team!
Started in May 2007,Willmar received their first ever semi-pro
football team. The Alexandria Mustangs were purchased and
relocated to Willmar by David Blom, making the Alexandria
Mustangs the Willmar Mustangs!!! Look for this new Mustang
team to create a new name for themselves, in hope of becoming
dominant of the Central States Football League.

The Willmar Mustangs have opened up the season
with a win by forfeit. The next game will be May 31st in Glenwood
City, Wis. vs. the Thunderhawks (1-0)

Are Now Part of the NPFL & MLFA |

The
Minor League Football Alliance (MLFA) organization brings
together Spring Leagues across the country to compete for
the MLFA Spring Football National Championship. The Mustangs
are in the MLFA East Division which consist of 53 teams
across the United States. The MLFA East Division winner
will play the MLFA West winner which consist of 63 teams
in a National Championship in early August.

The Mustangs were GPFL champions in 2000 and also won the Heartland
Bowl Regional tournament championship played in the Metrodome finishing
the season 11-0-1. In 2001 the team finished with a 7-3 record. In
2002 the Mustangs went unbeaten through the regular season and finished
8-1. 2003 saw the the Mustangs win their division championship and
end with an 8-2 record. The 2004 team went 7-3 losing three very close
games. The Mustangs did not play in 2005. In 2006 they returned under
new owner Rick Ties and a new name the Lakes Area Mustangs. The Mustangs
turned in a solid season with a 3-4 record and reached the GPFL playoffs
in each season, with a winning percentage of 800. In 2007 the Mustangs
switched ownership once again, now being run by David Blom, and has
since relocated to Willmar. They finished 2-7 for the 2007 season.
The Mustangs are looking at getting back on track for the 2008 season,
while creating a new identity and becoming one of the premiere teams
in the NPFL. |
